  1. What is the point for the rabbet on the treads for the steel plate? Is it just aesthetic or does it add structural stability?

    • Ibecause of the mitered corner the thin face veneer of the plywood would be too vulnerable to abuse and could peak or chip up if accidentally kicked or the like over time so the steel plate fortifies the corner condition. I like the look without it better but that is why we did it.
